{"id":48,"date":"2016-04-11T16:58:33","date_gmt":"2016-04-11T15:58:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/modal.msh-vdl.fr\/?page_id=48"},"modified":"2017-01-23T10:42:06","modified_gmt":"2017-01-23T09:42:06","slug":"tutoriels","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/modal.msh-vdl.fr\/index.php\/page-d-exemple\/tutoriels\/","title":{"rendered":"The annotation procedure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<header class=\"entry-header\">\n<h4 class=\"entry-title\">A TWO-FOLD PROCEDURE<\/h4>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>The annotation\u00a0of the Modal Corpus was performed as a two-step\u00a0procedure :<\/p>\n<p>(1) firstly the epistemic constructions were\u00a0identified;<\/p>\n<p>(2) then several\u00a0semantic, syntactic, pragmatic and discursive features\u00a0of each epistemic construction were annotated.<\/p>\n<h4>IDENTIFYING EPISTEMIC CONSTRUCTIONS<\/h4>\n<p>We identified\u00a0<em>the totality of\u00a0constructions that explicitly signal the process of shared attribution of a truth value to the propositional tokens that compose a discourse<\/em>.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/modal.msh-vdl.fr\/index.php\/2016\/12\/11\/a-functional-notion-of-epistemicity\/?lang=en\">Here<\/a>, a theoretical justification of\u00a0the functional definition\u00a0of epistemic construction.<\/p>\n<h4>ANNOTATING EPISTEMIC CONSTRUCTIONS<\/h4>\n<p><em>We\u00a0represented<\/em>\u00a0the\u00a0<em>epistemic constructions<\/em>\u00a0identified in the corpus\u00a0as complex triadic constructions consisting of a marker, a scope and a relation between the marker and the scope .\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/modal.msh-vdl.fr\/index.php\/2016\/12\/12\/english-representing-epistemic-constructions-as-triadic-relations\/?lang=en\">Here<\/a>,\u00a0a theoretical justification of the formal representation of epistemic constructions\u00a0as triadic constructions.<\/p>\n<p><em>We annotated several semantic, syntactic and pragmatic features\u00a0of the marker, the scope and the relation<\/em>.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/modal.msh-vdl.fr\/index.php\/2016\/12\/07\/english-the-annotation-scheme1\/?lang=en\">Here<\/a>,\u00a0a detailed description of the annotation scheme.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h4>OPERATIONALIZING THE ANNOTATION TASK<\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/paolapietrandrea.altervista.org\/guidelines_decision_trees_for_French_with_examples.pdf\">Here<\/a>,\u00a0the decision trees that guided the\u00a0annotators\u00a0in the identification \u00a0of\u00a0epistemic constructions and in the annotation task.<\/p>\n<h4>Inter-annotator\u00a0AGREEMENT TESTS<\/h4>\n<p>The originality of the annotation procedure led us to develop an\u00a0<em>original technique for testing the inter annotator agreement<\/em>, essentially based on the percentage of superposition between the spans of text identified as markers or scopes by the annotators. \u00a0The following\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/paolapietrandrea.altervista.org\/isa-final-lrec.pdf\">article<\/a>\u00a0describes this technique.<\/p>\n<pre>Ghia, E., L.
